We were planning a record session in studio when we recorded this concert at Gregory’s Jazz Club in Rome, and we felt that in spite of the non-excellent quality of the sound, the music was good!
So here you have two originals and three standards: The Meeting, one of the two original songs, is a tune about solidity, compactness, energy. We have been playing together as a trio for more than eight years and during this time we have learned that music arrives by itself if you open the right doors. This tune is meant to be the door to energy, and we like energetic music.
We love ballads too. The Cock and the Little Wild Boar is the other original and is a ballad, and we played also Body and Soul, a beautiful standard.
Often, we don’t know what is going to happen with a tune when we play it, and this is very exciting. Claudio did not know what song we were going to play when I said “play a Latin intro”, and then Recordame came in.
Between the first and the second set someone made a request. It is wonderful when you play something you know someone has been waiting for. So we felt almost as kids in a playground when we played Confirmation.
I think the most important thing for us is that we are a solid trio. We have a lot of respect for each other, but we are also very good friends, so when we play we feel free to express ourselves, to make suggestions, to interact. Then, things happen. Maybe the best thing I can say about our music is ” I hope you’ll enjoy it!”
